In addition Chapter 8 also explores Ethiopia’s desire to secure reliable trade routes as a result of it being ‘the most populous landlocked country in the world’ (pg 252). The last few pages of the chapter focus on Ethiopia and Egypt’s transboundary water dispute as a result of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam construction – a case study relevant to a number of A-level and GCSE specifications. Marshall argues that Ethiopia has the potential to be self-sufficient, especially when factoring in Ethiopia’s construction of various dams and power stations along the Blue Nile and its other rivers. Whereas Chapter 8, Ethiopia, explores a number of issues restricting its development whilst also considering its strengths, one of which is fresh water. It even contains a brief section on the limitations of The Great Green Wall.

However certain chapters also discuss additional factors such as Scotland and Catalonia’s campaign for independence and what would happen if…Ĭhapter 7, The Sahel, provides an excellent summary of the challenges the region has and is continuing to experience including climate change, terrorism, conflict, poverty, migration and its changing landscape.
